Alabanda Island Retreat enjoys one of the most unusual and idyllic locations in our entire portfolio.

Ten minutes across the water from the port of Fethiye lies the sleepy island of Şövalye, an entirely pedestrianised island with beautiful shady coastal paths. The island is home to a collection of private houses, together with our two perfect island retreats: Ece - a select boutique hotel, and our pride and joy – the brand-new Alabanda Island Retreat.

A fundamental part of our philosophy is to discover high-calibre and unusual properties for our guests to enjoy exclusively. We like to think that our portfolio represents the very best the Lycian Coast has to offer. However we feel it is no exaggeration to state that with its combination of beautiful contemporary décor, unique island waterfront location and stunning views (both out to the Gulf in front and across to Fethiye behind) Alabanda Island Retreat exceeds this brief in every way. It is without doubt one of our favourite villas.

Located at the end of the island, you feel that the entire point belongs to you. The grounds adjacent to the villa are a protected area of historical interest and when you swim from the villa you can make out the ruins of settlements dating back to late Roman times. Surrounded by the sea on three sides, there is a small private pebble beach directly in front. No matter in which direction you look, you are rewarded with fabulous sea views.

Alabanda Island Retreat is the third property created by our good friends and colleagues, Cath and Can - the others being Levissi Lodge and Zakkum Evi. We say ‘created’ as they have a wonderful eye for design and take great pleasure in ensuring each of their creations is utterly unique.

Alabanda Island Retreat is a significant departure from their first two projects and they have allowed their imaginations free rein… the result is truly breathtaking – a house with an exterior that blends with its surroundings to create an almost rustic appearance, yet with an interior that can comfortably be described as modern, contemporary, even minimalist.

The walls of glass provide a feeling of space and elegance, and great care has been taken to maximise the impact of the surrounding views no matter where you are. Every level of this four-storey house has huge picture windows that provide wonderful seascapes, both out to the Gulf and back across the sheltered lagoon to the harbour of Fethiye.

The setting combined with the indoor and outdoor space is what makes Alabanda Island Retreat unique. The three-bedroom property is generously laid out over four floors, with many outdoor areas in which to relax, including private balconies, terraces, gardens, and beachfront. This makes the villa an ideal choice for friends travelling together, families, and also smaller parties looking to luxuriate in the space and enjoy a simply extraordinary location.

The sitting room opens onto the pool area which in turn leads onto the garden and small pebble beach. Here, guests can relax on scattered cushions and sun beds in the shade of the olive trees. You could stir yourself for the occasional swim or perhaps use one of the two kayaks which are provided to circumnavigate the island, stopping off at the Sunset Café for refreshments en route.
